Abstract

Ao remover as sementes da planta mãe, frugívoros podem contribuir não somente para a dispersão de sementes, mas também para sua germinação. O objetivo do presente estudo é verificar qual é o efeito físico/químico da passagem simulada pelo trato digestivo de frugívoros sobre a taxa e velocidade de germinação das sementes de espécies nativas do Pantanal de Aquidauana. A coleta de dados foi realizada mensalmente entre maio de 2018 e março de 2019. As sementes coletadas foram submetidas a três tratamentos: i) semente intacta, com polpa; ii) sem polpa, para analisar a escarificação que possivelmente a ingestão por vertebrados provoca sobre o tegumento e iii) sementes defecadas ou regurgitadas por aves ou sementes coletadas nas plantas, sem polpa, submetidas ao ácido clorídrico a 0,1N durante 10 minutos para simular a passagem pelo trato digestório da ave, devido à escassez de sementes nas fezes. Foi investigada a germinação de 510 sementes, pertencentes à 14 espécies vegetais. Sementes de sete espécies não germinaram em nenhum tratamento e a taxa de germinação das demais foi baixa, exceto de Erythroxylum anguifugum e Salacia elliptica. Nossos resultados demonstram que a remoção da polpa e a escarificação química da semente tem efeitos variáveis sobre a taxa e velocidade de germinação das sementes de diferentes espécies nativas. De modo geral, a remoção da polpa e passagem pelo ácido clorídrico é benéfica para germinação das sementes das espécies vegetais estudadas no Pantanal de Aquidauana, sendo pré-requisito para germinação de 21,4% delas.
