Abstract

Zingiberaceae é a maior família da ordem Zingiberales com 53 gêneros e mais de 1200 espécies e possui um alto nível de compostos de interesse medicinal, e dentre as espécies mais conhecida desta família destaca-se o Zingiber officinale Roscoe, conhecido popularmente como gengibre. Os gengibres são reconhecidos como seguros pela American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) e não possuem efeitos colaterais quando consumidos em quantidades moderadas, e pesquisas demonstram que além dos rizomas, as folhas e as flores de algumas espécies de gengibres possuem um potencial medicinal. Muitos estudos têm demonstrado que os compostos bioativos dos gengibres podem ser um excelente antimicrobiano contra diversos patógenos, especialmente para bactérias Gram-negativas e Gram-positivas. Dessa forma, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a atividade antibacteriana e a atividade antioxidante dos extratos aquosos das folhas e rizomas da espécie Zingiber officinale Roscoe cultivadas no Horto Medicinal da Unipar. O material botânico foi obtido do Horto Medicinal - UNIPAR campus Umuarama-PR, tendo como coordenadas geográficas S23°45”44,9” e W53°16”17,5” localizado na cidade de Umuarama, região noroeste do PR e encontra-se depositado no Herbário do Horto Medicinal da UNIPAR, sob o número 163. As amostras pulverizadas (pó) de rizomas e folhas da espécie de Zingiber officinale Roscoe foram submetidas às extrações aquosas (infusão - chá) e os filtrados foram liofilizados.  A determinação de compostos fenólicos totais e as atividades antioxidantes DPPH e FRAP foram realizadas nos extratos aquosos de rizomas e folhas de Z. officinale. A atividade antibacteriana (CIM) dos extratos aquosos de rizomas e folhas de Z. officinale foi realizada com os isolados de Escherichia coli oriundas de amostras de fezes humanas. Os resultados das atividades antioxidantes DPPH e FRAP foram mais efetivas nos extratos aquosos das folhas de Z. officinale, sugerindo a relação direta com os níveis elevados de compostos fenólicos totais. Os resultados desta pesquisa demonstraram o efeito bacteriostático dos extratos aquosos das folhas e sobremaneira dos rizomas de gengibre frente a isolados de E. coli oriundas de amostras de fezes humanas. Esses resultados sugerem além da utilização dos rizomas, a utilização das folhas de Z. officinale para os chás (infuso) como um potencial medicinal.
