Abstract

O glicerol é um subproduto na produção de biodiesel. Para cada 90 kg de biodiesel produzido, cerca de 10 kg de glicerol é formado. Devido ao aumento da produção de biodiesel, tem-se observado um aumento na produção de glicerol. Consequentemente, é imperativo encontrar novas aplicações para o excesso de glicerol produzido a partir do biodiesel. O glicerol pode ser convertido em compostos oxigenados por diferentes reações, como esterificação, eterificação e acetalização, que podem ser utilizados como bio-aditivos. Tradicionalmente, essas reações são realizadas na presença de catalisadores homogéneos. No entanto, devido a problemas ambientais, os catalisadores homogéneos têm vindo a ser substituídos por catalisadores heterogéneos, que podem ser separados da mistura reacional e reutilizáveis. Este trabalho, é uma pequena revisão sobre produção de bio-aditivos a partir de glicerol na presença de catalisadores ácidos sólidos.
