Resumo

En este estudio se describe algunos aspectos de la gametogénesis (ovogénesis) del pepino de mar Cucumaria califórnica Semper 1868, especie común de las costas del Pacífico mexicano. El presente estudio tiene como finalidad caracterizar algunos aspectos del ciclo gonádico durante la ovogénesis del pepino de mar Cucumaria californica (Semper, 1868), especie ampliamente distribuida en costas del Pacífico mexicano. Los ejemplares analizados fueron recolectados en aguas someras de las costas de Jalisco, Isla Cocinas, Chamela. Se procesaron 30 ejemplares seleccionando exclusivamente hembras que presentaran estadios en ovogénesis; según literatura la presencia de ovocitos maduros indica que la actividad gonádica se incrementa durante los meses de verano (julio-agosto), la estación en que se realizaron dichas recolectas en nuestra especie de estudio se presentó a finales de otoño (noviembre), bajo esas circunstancias el presente estudio nos lleva a definir parcialmente el ciclo reproductivo visto desde el punto de vista en ovogénesis; describiendo ciclos parciales del índice gonádico caracterizando con ello una escala citológica, checando la maduración gonádica entre hembras de diferentes tallas, no se halló diferencias estadísticamente significativas en cuanto a longitud y peso entre hembras y machos, aun cuando las hembras fueron ligeramente más grandes, examinando principalmente ovocitos primarios, secundarios con algunos pre-vitelos; detectados por medio de exámenes histológicos, revelando tallas promedio entre los 25.03 y 36 µm. Algunos autores manifiestan que factores ambientales controlan la gametogénesis mientras que el desove parece ser desencadenado principalmente por la temperatura y salinidad del agua, así como la disponibilidad de alimento durante el ciclo reproductivo, tales observaciones indican que se puede identificar la variación en la talla de los ovocitos durante el desarrollo gonádico, en el presente estudio se presentan algunos aspectos de la ovogénesis del pepino de mar Cucumaria califórnica con la finalidad de contar con datos específicos como herramienta de estudio en pos de la conservación como recurso económico.
