Abstract

O aumento do consumo de alimentos ricos em carboidratos simples e processados nas dietas atuais elevou as taxas de obesidade, resistência à insulina, diabetes tipo 2, distúrbios metabólicos e problemas cardiovasculares. A obesidade é considerada uma doença multifatorial, caracterizada pelo desequilíbrio energético associado a fatores genéticos, epigenéticos e comportamentais. Diante do seu rápido crescimento, surgiu a necessidade de estudos que visassem à prevenção e tratamento da obesidade. Nessa perspectiva, pesquisas foram desenvolvidas e descobriram-se inibidores de duas enzimas fundamentais na digestão de hidratos de carbono: alfa-amilase e alfa-glicosidase. O prolongamento do tempo de digestão ou a inibição das enzimas envolvidas nesse processo poderiam reduzir a absorção de carboidratos e consequentemente mobilizar as reservas de gordura corporal, influenciando na perda de peso. A presente revisão tem como objetivo avaliar o impacto dos inibidores dessas enzimas que podem ser encontrados em extrato de feijão branco (Phaseolus vulgaris) e sua implicação no tratamento da obesidade. Estudos demonstraram que o uso desses bloqueadores não apresentou efeitos colaterais graves, bem como efeito tóxico no fígado e rins, revelando resultados efetivos no tratamento da doença. Além disso, o inibidor de alfa-amilase mostrou-se eficiente na perda de peso, levando ao aumento da atividade da microbiota intestinal, fundamental na regulação do metabolismo energético.
