Abstract

A periodontite, desordem periodontal sucessora da gengivite, é uma doença de caráter infectoinflamatório e de alta prevalência mundial, a qual pode acarretar em perda dentária, já que tem como uma das principais características a reabsorção óssea alveolar. Seu tratamento convencional consiste em raspagem e alisamento corono-radicular com finalidade de reduzir a carga microbiana local, e consequentemente seus efeitos inflamatórios destrutivos. Apesar disso, sabe-se que alguns pacientes, em decorrência de suas individualidades, podem ter uma responsividade complicada à terapia convencional da periodontite, e, portanto, considerando os atributos dessa patologia, vale ressaltar a busca por métodos de tratamentos químicos auxiliares para tal doença. Dessa forma, devido ao polifenol resveratrol (RSV), presente em uvas e casca de amendoim, apresentar propriedades antibacteriana, anti-inflamatória e antioxidante, essa substância tem sido bastante estudada quanto ao seu uso em doenças infectoinflamatórias, como a periodontite. Assim sendo, essa revisão objetiva analisar a literatura no que se refere à ação adjuvante do RSV no tratamento da doença periodontal. Para isso, foi feita uma busca no banco de dados PubMed, utilizando os descritores “Resveratrol”, “Periodontitis”, “Therapy”, reunindo estudos que avaliaram o potencial do RSV na periodontite. Após a leitura dos resumos dos 31 artigos encontrados, 13 foram selecionados. Em síntese, a maioria deles demonstrou benefícios na utilização do RSV na terapia da periodontite, uma vez que tal polifenol apresentou redução da inflamação e da reabsorção óssea na maior parte dos estudos. Dessa forma, por essas ditas propriedades biológicas, o RSV apresenta potencial adjuvante na terapia da periodontite.
