Abstract

Objetivo: O objetivo foi realizar uma revisão integrativa da literatura, relacionada as atividades antimicrobianas da herbácea Illicium verum. Métodos: Realizaram-se pesquisas, entre novembro e dezembro de 2021, com os descritores: “antimicrobial” “biofilm”, “dental plaque”, “Illicium verum” e “star anise”, unidos por meio de operadores booleanos “OR” e “AND” nas bases de dados: Cochrane Library, EMBASE e PubMed, sendo encontrados 86 artigos, além de buscas complementares no Google Scholar. Foram considerados elegíveis estudos publicados até novembro do mesmo ano, os quais foram refinados em 17 artigos incluídos à presente revisão. Revisão da Literatura: Os achados mostraram que o Anis apresenta propriedades antimicrobianas, principalmente, devido aos seus compostos fenólicos presentes em seu óleo essencial, como o Anetol e o Ácido Gálico. A depender do composto e a sua relação com o tipo de bactéria (Gram-positiva e Gram-negativa), apresenta maior ou menor atividade inibitória bacteriana, sendo que o Anetol se mostra como o principal bioativo presente no extrato da planta. Conclusão: O Illicium verum apresenta atividades antimicrobianas promissoras, entretanto mais pesquisas relacionando a herbácea com diversas espécies bacterianas orais fazem-se necessárias, visando comprovar a sua eficácia in situ e in vivo, situando-a como uma futura possibilidade terapêutica na Odontologia.
