Abstract

O excesso de peso e a obesidade continuam a ser importante desafio de saúde mundial e fator de risco para um conjunto crescente de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis. O papel dos componentes dietéticos na promoção da sáude tem merecido considerável atenção na prevenção de doenças crônicas associadas à alimentação, dentre eles, destacam-se as fibras dietéticas. Este trabalho tem como objetivo realizar revisão bibliográfica quanto aos aspectos fisiológicos da fibra dietética e sua relação com a obesidade e microbiota intestinal, destacando os efeitos da fibra do bagaço de caju. Essa revisão bibliográfica ocorreu através de busca de literatura científica em base de dados, utilizando como descritores: “obesity”, “dietary fiber”, “cashew bagasse”. Os estudos mais recentes indicam a importância da fibra dietética por promover o crescimento de bactérias benéficas no intestino e produção de ácidos graxos de cadeia curta (SCFA), podendo normalizar as alterações metabólicas do estado obeso e comorbidades associadas. A fibra do bagaço de caju vem se destacando por ser uma fonte alternativa de fibra dietética, proveniente do bagaço de caju, um resíduo agroindustrial, de importância sócio-econômica para a região nordeste do Brasil, local de maior cultivo. A fibra do bagaço de caju apresenta efeitos fisiológicos funcionais no metabolismo normal e na obesidade, podendo esses efeitos estar associado à produção de SCFA. No entanto, os estudos que avaliam os efeitos fisiológicos dessa fibra ainda são escassos e mais estudos em modelo experimental e ensaios clínicos são necessários para elucidar os mecanismos de ação associados aos seus efeitos.
