U. humidicola (Rendle) Morrone & Zuloaga [syn. Brachiaria humidicola (Rendle) Schweick.] é uma espécie forrageira, de origem africana, que se adapta bem a solos pobres e mal drenados como os do Pantanal brasileiro. Apesar da sua importância, atualmente, poucas cultivares estão disponíveis no mercado. Os programas de melhoramento são dificultados pela condição poliploide e pela reprodução assexual da maioria das espécies. A hibridação intraespecífica para exploração da variabilidade genética na espécie é possível. Entretanto, a associação da poliploidia com a ocorrência de anormalidades meióticas afeta severamente a formação de grãos de pólen férteis e a produção de sementes. As análises citogenéticas são imprescindíveis no programa de melhoramento por identificar anormalidades meióticas que comprometem a fertilidade dos genótipos envolvidos e explicar as baixas taxas de sucesso em certos cruzamentos. Assim sendo, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a microsporogênese de híbridos intraespecíficos sexuais de U. humidicola.
