Abstract

A bioquímica integra conhecimentos de processos químicos em nível celular, possuindo um papel central nas ciências da vida. A compreensão de tópicos de bioquímica requer um alto nível de abstração pelos alunos, que podem ter dificuldades em visualizá-los. O conhecimento da estrutura das proteínas e sua respectiva função representa um desses tópicos. As proteínas são sistemas complexos com estruturas tridimensionais intrincadas e por isso diferentes abordagens têm sido utilizadas como ferramentas de visualização. O uso de modelos físicos costuma ser de grande valia para a aquisição de habilidades espaciais e ajudam os alunos nessas visualizações. Esta revisão descreve a criação e utilização de modelos visuais de proteínas no ensino de bioquímica para promover e comunicar informações estruturais. A pesquisa na literatura foi focada na busca por atividades que validassem ou medissem o efeito das representações espaciais para a melhoria da alfabetização visual. Foi observado que a compreensão da estrutura e função das proteínas tornou-se mais evidente a partir da manipulação de modelos físicos, que aumentou a capacidade de visualização e interpretação por parte dos alunos. Isso ocorreu devido a intervenção com representações visuais que mostram os princípios que governam a estrutura da proteína, facilitando o entendimento da função biológica.
