El propósito del presente trabajo es explorar las incumbencias del fenómeno denominado Economía del Conocimiento en relación a las denominadas TICs y su efecto sobre la innovación. Se propone un análisis que, partiendo de la revisión de la literatura y adicionando el estudio empírico; discrimina de las innovaciones sustentadas en las TICs; su componente aplicativo o combinatorio. Sobre una muestra pequeña de cien innovaciones sustentadas en TICs.; se han obtenido tres criterios de agrupamiento. Un criterio general que agrupa a todas las unidades muestrales, un criterio que agrupa las muestras en principios orientativos de aplicación, y un criterio que las agrupa en función las características de los eventos cuyo abordaje, resultó en la innovación en cuestión.
